mushrooms and more mushrooms

So very recently I decided this was going to be the year I go mushroom hunting. I've had an interest in foraging for mushrooms for a few years now but I've never taken it upon myself to just go out and do it. Seeing as the Pacific North West has an abundance of wild mushrooms available I decided to make my way into the North Shore mountains to look around. My first day out I headed up to Grouse mountain and had some minor success, I found 2 chanterelles and 4 lobster mushrooms

My real goal has been to find Chanterelles, they're in season and are a great all purpose mushroom to eat. Im not out wandering in the woods to save money at the store by any means, I think this whole activity is fun and is a great excuse to get out into the wild for some exercise and learn about what's out there.
I'll admit that tonight I'm going to the Vancouver Mycological Society monthly meeting at Van Dusen Garden in hopes of learning more about mushrooms and some foraging tips.






My last two outtings have been a bust, but I really didnt spend enough time looking around. I need to learn more about what kind of area I should be looking for and which mountains provide that. Also where can I leave my car to go hiking around on the mountain side. I'm hoping to learn more at the meeting tonight about local mushrooms and hopefully get some helpful tips from members.

Travel request response

Dear Ms. Gir...

I would like to take your travel requests under great consideration. As I'm sure you know I will have to jump through some hoops before I can committ to such a trip as Japan or NYC for that matter. I'm honestly thinking more towards NYC for a week than going to Japan. Right now I don't have the money for that big of a trip and I dont feel I'll save up enough money to do the trip justice by next year.

However, I need to resolve this schooling issue and try to request the time off for november....I'm assuming you're trying to go over your days off in November. I'll see what I can do with work.

now to the food and what not

So I never post on my blog and if anything I would like my blog to be food related. You know share stories and recipes etc. However, I would like to share these videos of a mini doc on gordon ramsay back in the late 90's when he opened his first restaurant. This is a brilliant mini series. I wish I could find the uncensored versions but this will do. I'll show the following episodes later.

I haven't bothered to post anything in forever....too lazy I guess. I've had things to write about but I just haven't been able to get into it. I had meant to start this blog to chronicle my 2nd year apprentice class, but as you can see that did not happen.

So what's new? I won a silver medal in a cooking competition at the BC Food Service Expo and heading for Cuba in 2 days.

I am not prepared for Cuba...I should be packing right now but I'm not. Although I have put some laundry in the wash that should be packed later on. Tomorrow I need to sort my medical insurance and buy whatever I need to take with me to Cuba...tomorrow is pay day.

In anticipation of Cuba I bought a plantain and cooked it....not very tasty in comparison to what I had in VEgas...bah

there we go..kinda sorta what I had ordered at this Cuban restaurant...not tasty. And now Tatty is going to get mad at me :( lol
